Warner Bros. Animation has a mixed record with its Caped Crusader. The folks behind that shop have been given us the legendary Batman: The Animated Series; more recent acclaimed animated superhero films like Justice League vs. The Fatal Five and Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths; and most of the DC Animated Movie Universe (DCAMU). On the other hand, they’ve also produced trite offerings like Batman and Harley Quinn and the deeply misguided adaptation of The Killing Joke.
The latest offering from the WB and DC stable is an adaptation of the Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee graphic novel Batman: Hush—a murder-mystery that spans Batman’s relationships with almost all his villains, his extended Bat-Family, and the rest of the universe around him. The ’00s comic Hush was a uniquely well-plotted modern Batman story that introduced a new villain, Hush, and it seems like it’d lend itself nicely to a film like this one. We’ll find out when the film drops on DVD and Blu-Ray (and likely on the DC Universe service) later this year.
The adaptation is set in the DCAMU, which means the plot will likely make use of the existing relationships and lore within that universe—as well its voice actors. Jason O’Mara, Jerry O’Connell, Rebecca Romijn, and Rainn Wilson will all return their previous roles as Batman, Superman, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor, respectively, for the film. Maury Sterling, best known for playing Max in Homeland, will voice Hush.
The trailer is packed with fun Catwoman and Batman flirtation, as well as a look at Hush himself. Check it out here:
