Class 1-A’s Competition Goes All Out in “Shiketsu High Lurking”

“Shiketsu High Lurking”

My Hero Academia 0316: “Shiketsu High Lurking”

Season 3 of My Hero Academia is in full swing, and we’re following every move. Just be careful: spoilers and speculation below.

More than 1,000 heroes-in-training are competing in the provisional license exam, which only 100 can pass. Class 1-A has just retaliated against a massive attack (the “crushing of UA”), but that’s not gonna be enough for a win. Meanwhile, Aizawa, and Joke watch on and provide commentary for both sides.

The rival students have perfected ultimate moves of their own.

The exam begins slowly, with just about everyone in a stalemate. Everyone’s cautious, trying not to show off profound power or weakness, but that barrier melts more with every strike. Ketsubutsu’s Shindo unleashes a massive earthquake (and ultimate move), splitting up team UA. It takes a while for anyone to pass — then Inasa takes out 150 people in a single attack.

You know, just saving bae.

Deku emerges from the rubble and realizes he’s alone. There’s an instantaneous whoosh and one of his targets lights up — it’s Camie, who makes a game of asking questions, attacking and disappearing. The kids from Ketsubutsu catch up and launch a huge attack. Instead of fighting back, he rescues Uraraka, who’s falling and vulnerable, but attacks once they’re safe. Fake Uraraka melts and reveals Camie, who retreats as real Uraraka and Sero swoop in.

Todoroki’s talent might not be enough against 10 ninjas.

Todoroki leaves his hiding spot and walks straight into a trap. He says he’s alone because his Quirk doesn’t work well in a group, but he’s also backed up by arrogance. It’s as much U.A.’s weakness as it is his own, as Joke points out earlier. Instead of avoiding him, the ninjas utilized a weakness — he hasn’t fought much with fire, and they attack tungsten, a metal that won’t melt. Todoroki hasn’t given his all yet, but he’s also severely outnumbered. What was it Dabi said all those episodes ago? Poor little Shoto Todoroki.

The Verdict:

“Shiketsu High Lurking” fantastically showcases the new characters’ abilities, but it’s also rushed. But now that more than half the spots are filled, things are about to get tense and focused.
Rating: 7.8

“Shiketsu High Lurking” is available to stream in Japanese on Crunchyroll and Hulu. All dubs going forward will stream two weeks after the Japanese release.
