Justin Roiland is an animation dynamo. Not only is the co-creator and co-showrunner of Rick and Morty one of its driving creative forces, he writes and directs episodes and developed the cartooning style that makes the show so visually unique. He also voices both of its two lead characters, which means that — while recording an especially boozy upcoming episode in the show’s third season — Dan Harmon, his co-creator, encouraged him to method-act through his performance by getting totally sauced.
“The first thing I told him was, ‘Don’t have tequila’ ” Sydney Ryan, a producer on Rick and Morty, explains in a video published to Adult Swim’s Facebook page. “And then of course he had tequila.”
Roiland seemed philosophical about the decision. “How many shots is the right amount of shots for Drunk Rick?” he asks. “I’m on my fourth shot.”
What follows in the video below is literally just two minutes of Roiland’s antics as he gets drunker and drunker and does more and more shots while attempting to voice act. Enjoy.
