UPDATE 2/6: The FULL trailer has been released today. Clocking in at 80 seconds long and revealing the backstory of the new season — it’s 50 years since the end of the fourth season and Jack, who has not aged as a result of his time traveling, is still fighting Aku—it’s a smorgasbord of ninjas, blood, sword-play, and the same intensity that made the original show famous. This already looks like one of the most uniquely animated shows of the year. Here’s the first, full look at the Samurai Jack of 2017, complete a hint or two at what Aku’s been up to.
Now you’ll have to excuse me, I’ll be back with a full analysis of it as soon as I regain consciousness.
Original post:
Here—in a blink-and-you-miss-it, 10-second spot—is New Jack, same as the old one, on Adult Swim’s revival of Genndy Tartakovsky’s seminal series Samurai Jack.
We know for a fact that Jack has never looked better. The opening shot of the spot is a high-definition, rain-drenched dark silhouette of our hero that calls back to the original series’ most evocative imagery. In a clap of thunder, Jack’s stern face greets us in stark black-and-white that calls back to Tartakovsky’s manga influences as much as anything.
Samurai Jack returns for a fifth season on Adult Swim on March 11 at 11:00 p.m. Mark the calendar.
