AnimeNYC 2018 cosplay

All the Cosplay, Spiky Hair, and Fun at AnimeNYC 2018, In Pictures

We stopped by this year’s show. Here’s what we saw.

The Javits Center—New York City’s massive glass-encased gathering place for conventions, trade shows, and, often, nerds—played host to an anime festival this past weekend, AnimeNYC. Being the animation obsessives that we are, The Dot and Line was on the scene. Here’s what we saw, in photographs:

Behold, the fascinating art—fascinating enough to inspire even Luigi.

“Saiyans are so annoying!” | Bulma, Dragon Ball Z

A+ spikes, Mr. Vegeta.

“The wicked go down to the realm of the dead.” | Psalm 9:17

Often, all you can do to avoid being overwhelmed by the masses is to sit down among them, and breathe.

“When I, who am called a ‘weapon’ or a ‘monster’, fight a real monster, I can fully realize I’m just a human.” | Alphonse Elric, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

The only thing that matched the cosplay? Excellent toys and models of your favorite cartoon characters.

“What is free trade, what is free trade under the present condition of society? It is freedom of capital.” | Karl Marx

The illustrations especially proved hot-ticket items.

“I don’t have friends. I have family.” | Dom Toretto, Furious 7

You know they’re a family.

“I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in.” | Lady Gaga, A Star Is Born

Sometimes you stare into the Plushie Pool and the Plushie Pool stares back.

“I won’t run away anymore… I won’t go back on my word… that is my ninja way!” | Uzumaki Naruto

This is the next generation, and they love anime. Deal with it.
